Alpha Gamma Delta

Alpha Gamma Delta was founded at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York on May 30, 1904.

11 pioneering women came together to form Alpha Gamma Delta. Today Alpha Gamma Delta has grown to be an international organization with 179 collegiate chapters and 250 alumnae chapters, clubs and Junior Circles. Locally, we were founded at CMU in 1959.

Alpha Gamma Delta Sisterhood

Every semester, our chapter holds a sisterhood retreat. This event allows all the women to participate in activities to bring them closer as a group and build individual relationships.

We also host a variety of sisterhood events throughout the year, including movie nights, craft activities, game nights, song fests, big/little mixers, bowling, sport nights, and more.We love to have socials and brotherhood/sisterhoods with the other organizations here at CMU.

Alpha Gamma Delta Leadership

Alpha Gamma Delta strives to help every member discover the leader within them. Older members often serve as mentors to newer members in order to help them find what interests they may have at CMU.

Every week at our general meeting, our President (as well as our Leadership Chair) presents a variety of opportunities both on and off campus. Also, about 2 to 3 emails are sent to the list serve weekly highlighting things for members to do in their “spare time.”

Our members are strongly encouraged and often sponsored to attend leadership conferences, programs, and seminars. Many of our women, especially executive council members try to do as much of this as possible to serve as an example for our newer members. We support all of our sisters who hold leadership roles and often recognize and reward these accomplishments.

Alpha Gamma Delta Scholarship

As a chapter, we offer our members a variety of scholarship services. Any member who goes below the required GPA for good standing participates in study hours proctored by other active members. Our Vice President of Scholarship will tutor or find applicable tutors for members struggling in specific courses.

Alpha Gamma Delta Philanthropy

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was chosen as our philanthropy many years ago. The Foundation supports Diabetes education, including juvenile diabetes. The foundation also helps support scholarships for members both alumni and undergraduate. It offers SIS grants (sister income supplements) for alumnae members experiencing times of trouble in their lives. This SIS money often goes to Alumnae who lost a home in a natural disaster, are experiencing sever medical problems, or other extreme situations.

We encourage community service and involvement with all members both at school and at home. Our Community Service Chair is always presenting opportunities for us to participate in. Many of our women are active in the volunteer center, alternative breaks, community hospital, group home service, churches, and many more.

Our chapter prides ourself on our love of our philanthropy. We have been awarded as a Jewel Chapter (raising over $2000 a year) by the AGD Foundation, as well has won multiple awards from International Headquarters in the previous years. We are perhaps best known on campus for our semi-annual Taco Dinner!
